A native of Pickens County and a graduate of Furman University and the University of Southern
California, John Gentry has called Greenville home since 1981. His career as a musician and
educator included positions with the Greenville Symphony, Greenville Chorale, Furman
University, the GCS Fine Arts Center, and North Greenville University. He has served in several
upstate churches, most notably Greenville’s First Presbyterian, where he was Director of Music
and the Arts for nearly thirty years. John was also founder and director of the Piedmont Men’s
Chorale and Carolina Chamber Singers, and served on the boards of the Carolina Youth
Symphony, Greenville Savoyards, and Greenville Chorale. In addition, he has held leadership
positions with the local chapters of Choristers Guild and the American Guild of Organists. He
currently serves as organist at Second Presbyterian Church in downtown Greenville.
John and his musical wife, Sarah, enjoy gardening, travel, and visiting their grandchildren on the
coast. As a lifelong resident of the upstate, John is excited to be a realtor in one of the fastest
growing of our great country. He looks forward to getting to know you better!
